Learn how Tutrx calculates your earnings, the commission structure, payout timing, and how to track your revenue.
How pricing works
You set the price for each course you create. Students pay this price when they book a session. For classroom courses, each student pays the full course price individually. For 1-on-1 sessions, the student pays the price you set per session.
Platform commission
Tutrx charges a platform commission on each booking to cover payment processing, hosting, video infrastructure, and platform maintenance. The base commission rate is 30%. This means for every $100 a student pays, Tutrx retains $30 and you receive $70.
Tiered commission rates
As you teach more on Tutrx, you may qualify for lower commission rates based on your total completed teaching hours. The more sessions you complete, the higher your tier and the more you keep from each booking. Check the Performance tab in your dashboard for your current tier.
When you get paid
Payouts are triggered automatically after a student confirms that a session was completed successfully. There is no manual payout request needed. Once the student clicks 'Session Was Good', your earnings are sent directly to your PayPal account within minutes.
What if the student doesn't confirm?
If a student does not confirm or report within 12 hours after the session ends, the system automatically confirms the session and triggers your payout. You won't lose earnings due to an inactive student.
PayPal setup is required
You must have a PayPal email connected in your Settings before you can publish a course or receive payouts. Go to Settings and either log in with PayPal or enter your PayPal email manually. Your email is verified via a $0.01 test deposit to confirm the account is active.
What if a payout fails?
If your PayPal email is incorrect, unregistered, or your account has restrictions, the payout will be marked as 'Failed'. Update your PayPal email in Settings and contact support@tutrx.org to request a retry. Common issues include typos in the email, an unverified PayPal account, or using an email not linked to any PayPal account.
Refund scenarios
If a student reports an issue with a session, your payout is placed on hold while the Tutrx support team reviews the case. If the report is rejected (decided in your favour), the payout proceeds normally. If a refund is approved, the student receives a full refund and no payout is issued for that booking.
Track your earnings
Open the Performance tab in your Instructor Dashboard for a full breakdown. You'll see total lifetime earnings, per-course revenue, number of completed sessions, average rating, and the status of every individual payout (Pending, Paid, Failed, or No PayPal).
Example payout calculation
A student books your course for $150. The platform commission at the base rate (30%) is $45. Your instructor payout is $105. This $105 is sent to your PayPal automatically once the student confirms the session. You can see this breakdown for every booking in the Performance tab.
