How to Use Group Chats and Messaging

Communicate with students through direct messages and group chats, share files, and manage conversations.

    Step-by-step guide

    1. 1

      Open the Messages section

From your Instructor Dashboard, click 'Messages' in the sidebar. This opens the Messaging Center where you can see all your direct messages and group chats in one place.

    2. 2

      Send a direct message

To message a specific student, find their conversation in the left panel or start a new one. Direct messages are private between you and the student — useful for answering individual questions, sharing feedback, or discussing session details.

    3. 3

      Create a group chat

Click the 'New Group' button to create a group chat. Give it a name (e.g. 'ServiceNow Fundamentals - Spring 2026'), add a description, and select the students you want to include. You're automatically added as a member.

    4. 4

      Send messages and share files

Type your message and press Enter or click Send. You can also attach files by clicking the attachment button — upload documents, images, code files, or any reference material. Files are stored securely and accessible to all group members.

    5. 5

Use group chats for course announcements

Group chats are great for posting class-wide announcements, sharing links or resources, answering common questions, and fostering discussion among students. Pin important messages so they're easy to find.

    6. 6

      Manage your conversations

Conversations show online status indicators so you can see which students are currently active. Messages are delivered in real-time via live updates, so there's no need to refresh. You'll also receive notifications for new messages.
